PRECEDENT

ive come back to this image because it is where the inspiration came from the simplicity of the mobius strip never ending and the linking of the two i wanted this house to be free flowing usable space that could be modifyed to suit the use at the time while linking all the spaces and the outside within in the confinds of the walls.

FRONT ROOF VIEW

FLOOR PLAN

You will notice the atrium in the center of the building this is open to allow natural light and ventilation into the building, it also has access into it. It also opens up the space while giving the occupants a feeling that nature is never far away.

THE GARAGE

This is the end of the driveway which houses 2 cars and access through to the back yard without going through the house. here you can also see the slatted screening and the gap under the overhng of the roof to give better views but still shading the direct sun.

TREES

i was really trying to get some different shots but the trees just dont look right to me.

TEXTURING

putting the textures on was challenging and after days of messing about i have something that works. You will notice that there is a high level of glazing this is being combated with slatted timber at the front where i want less coverage of trees to enable a view out over the hills and no cover at the back as i envisioned this as being quite dense in trees.

STARTING WITH A SITE

This is the follow on from the shapes building windows and outlines of space etc as well as experimenting with trees in the contaext of the site. not really thrilled with them but will see where it goes.

THE OUTCOME

This is what happened with variations of spacial design from my exploration of the mobius strip, then taking into account some of my layouts in my sketchbook around what was actually needed to make this house function ie room sizes etc etc.

STARTING TO TAKE SHAPE

with the help of simon here im using the mobius strip as the starting point for spacial order. inserting the cylinders into my last hand in and seeing where it takes me.

FINAL <4> SPIRALING

this brings a few of the concepts together, context, shadow, light, materiality and movement in a 2D form, the mobius strip is morphed and spiraled through each other to create a virtual world each to interpret in their own individual way.

FINAL <3> BLENDING

By blending the context in which the mobius strip sits and getting inside it you gain a perception of what it would operate like as glazing wall system, light centers/diffuses the opening much like an entrance and bouncing shadows relay a small sense of space and enclosure.

FINAL <2> TILING

Context plays with the shadows of something that is there but not really visible, by tiling the outer edge and looking at the effects light play on its inhabitence you are engaged in what and where they come from.

FINAL <1> WEAVING

this is an experiment with weaving, by layering the mobius strip and changing the scale while twisting the elements creates an unusual elevated experience one might associate with a flight of stairs, while quietly in the background the strips act as a form of structure or opening into what is unknown.

CASTING SHADOWS

this is an attempt at introducing lighting and flocking or blending the shapes shadows off another object.

FLOATING

My next attempt at putting context in with Tiling & Packing

LINKING MESS

My next attempt at perspective and array functions playing with scale for weaving

MOBIUS TRAIN

Here i have arrayed the strips and used the other forms to work in with the train behind. They have all been linked and twisted in different directions. Im still unsure where im going with this and struggling to get away from my initial concept. Back to the drawing board.

MORPHED MOBIUS

I took the strip one step further and manipulated it into new forms. Not sure where im going with this but these 3 were my favorite ones.

SHAPES ARE STILL JUST SHAPES

this is an unsuccessful attempt at using the old book from second year to define a new direction, it hasnt really worked but i worked out some cool effects like lofting and using it to create new shapes and patterns.

FLOWER MOBIUS

My attempt at layering and morphing the mobius strip into new and interesting shapes. it ended up looking like a flower kind of and works well as a pretty shape but think it still has some way to go.

LINKING

This is my first attempt at linking and arraying the mobius strip while also trying out some materiality on the 2 objects. In the literal sense i was trying to replicate the wood being his aboriginal heritage and the aluminum being his white upbringing and the 2 linking or overlapping. Not sure how successful this is. Chris showed me a cool morphing camera angle to achieve this shot.

MOBIUS STRIP

this is my final idea and basis for my initial exploration - The mobius strip, it is a surface or object which has one continuous side which relates back to my chosen Australian figure Stephen page. He is a dancer who is part of the stolen generation and was brought up in a white home only to find his heritage in his teens and brought his love of dance his white upbringing and his aboriginal history together. Dance bright them all together and i want to explore this coming back on itself and integrating ideas into the house and module.

MOISTSCAPE INSTALLATION

this is a crazy 3D install of garden meets art, moss is placed in carefully formed truss that suspends over gravel.
